The name "Matriz" is a tribute to the multiple layers of meaning that this piece represents. In addition to representing the organ where a new being is generated and developed, "Matriz" also symbolizes the origin and source of something new, as well as the generation of ideas and concepts. This artwork utilizes both the conventional and inverted Arraiolos stitch, and the artist, through the exploration of color theory, aims to create a rich and complex visual narrative. This piece breaks with established conventions by embroidering the Arraiolos on a fixed, robotic stainless steel metal structure, as an analogy to our daily lifestyle. This artwork employing the outline stitch dating back to the first Arraiolos stitch tapestries of the 16th century.
