CO-CREATIVE RESIDENCY — TORRÃO

The residency took place in September 2023, and the unveiling of the artwork (created with 17 individuals, aged between 45 and 82), in the village of Torrão, Alentejo, occurred on October 7th. We currently inhabit an era of constant flux, where many individuals feel adrift, lacking purpose. My aim with this residency was to imbue fresh significance using a quintessentially Portuguese technique from the 16th century, Arraiolos tapestry, which I engage with daily. Together, we crafted a tapestry as a community, where we shared narratives, traditions, art, ancestral wisdom, and affection. This experience fostered intergenerational exchange, inspiring the preservation and evolution of our artistic legacy and cultural heritage. Tapestry in Arraiolos stitch 220 x 230 cm
