TEIAS CRIATIVAS

The piece "Aurora" was born from the artist’s participation in an open call promoted by New Hand Lab, as part of the "Teias Criativas" residency cycle. Selected to join this program, the artist was challenged to develop a work that combined ceramics and textiles in an intensive creative process lasting just one month—one week in residence in Caldas da Rainha and three weeks in Covilhã. The result of this journey, completed between January 6 and February 4, 2025, became part of the Covilhã Design Triennial 2025 program, held from March 21 to June 21. "Aurora" was the Roman goddess of the morning, symbolizing the sunrise and the beginning of a new day. The name also alludes to the aurora borealis, bursts of light, particles, and natural phenomena that paint the night skies with vibrant, dancing colors, much like the effect sometimes glimpsed on the historic walls and atmospheres of New Hand Lab. With the "Aurora" dome, the artist evokes the idea of awakening—something that brings light and beauty, renewal and magic. The work reflects the fusion between the industrial universe and the intimate space, where embroidered curves, in different techniques and wools, portray woman as a creative force, but also her connection to the feminine inner world. The path leading to the piece, marked by ceramics, draws a garden that invites contemplation and entry into "Aurora". Techniques: Ceramics: Pottery; hand modeling; musgado.
